Metallurgical and Materials Engineering is a broad discipline, ranging from the extracting of valuable minerals and metals from ores, to the production of steel, to the development and fabrication of pure metals, alloys, and other materials. The combination of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in the same department gives students a broader base of knowledge, particularly useful for those interested in working in the mineral industry.
