Welcome to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. As a civil and environmental engineer you will design and build the infrastructure of a nation. You will study buildings, bridges, foundations, water and waste water treatment, and highways. In our classes and laboratories you will learn to: invent safer and more economical methods of construction; plan, build, and improve a nation's infrastructure; adapt the natural water supplies to people's needs; and find ways to control and reduce environmental pollution and hazardous wastes. Our civil and environmental engineering programs teach students to make decisions and consider a broad range of factors such as required resources, aesthetic values, as well as environmental, economical, legal, sociological, and technological limitations.

The University of Nevada, Reno is a land-grant institution opened in 1874.
